FAQs

MAKING A GIFT

What areas at Rutgers can I donate to?

The Rutgers-Camden Class of 2023 Scarlet Seniors Campaign is highlighting funds across Rutgers that empower students, provide support for the next generation of leaders and innovators, strengthen our beloved community, and contribute to research for the common good. Donors, however, can make a gift in support of any part of the university that is meaningful to them. This includes student organizations, schools and major programs, cultural centers, research initiatives, and so much more.

How do I tell you what area I'd like to donate to?

When you click the "Make a Gift" button, you can search for the area you are interested in supporting by typing in the school, program, club, etc. in the search bar. Don't see the area that you would like to support listed? Select the "Other (Write-In)" option from the fund list and include the name of the fund that you'd like to donate to in the appropriate box on the Payment screen.

Still have questions? Send an email to scarletseniors@ruf.rutgers.edu for additional support.

I don't see the area I'd like to donate to in the fund list.

When you click the "Make a Gift" button, there is an option to select "Other (Write-In)" from the fund list. On the Payment screen, you can include the name of the fund you'd like to donate to in the appropriate box.

Send an email to scarletseniors@ruf.rutgers.edu for additional support.

Can I make a donation in support of multiple areas at Rutgers that matter to me?

Yes! When you click the “Make a Gift” button, you can select as many funds as you would like to support. Be sure to include how much you’d like to donate to each fund. If your total donation amount is at minimum $5 monthly, or a minimum $25 gift, you will receive a philanthropy cord to recognize your generosity!

How do I make a recurring monthly gift?

Thank you for your interest in recurring giving! For the price of one cup of coffee each month, you can help make a difference for others. You can sign-up for recurring giving by selecting the recurring gift option on the gift form (located next to the "One-Time" button). Remember: a minimum $5 monthly recurring gift earns you a philanthropy cord to wear at commencement as recognition for your generosity!

Fun fact: once you give for two consecutive years to Rutgers, you will be recognized as a Rutgers Loyalty Society (RLS) member!

Can I make a donation in my friend's name for them to receive credit?

Unfortunately, no. To receive proper recognition as a Scarlet Senior donor, your friend must use a credit card with their name as the billing name. Please note: any gifts made with a credit card that has your name as the billing name will be attributed to you. Your friend will NOT be eligible to receive the exclusive donor recognition opportunity or a philanthropy cord to wear at commencement.

Can I use my parents' credit card to make my donation?

Unfortunately, no. To receive proper recognition as a Scarlet Senior donor, you must use a credit card with your name as the billing name. Please note: any gifts make with a credit card billed to your parent or guardian will NOT be eligible to receive an invitation to the exclusive donor recognition opportunity or a philanthropy cord to wear at commencement.

Can I use my digital wallet (i.e. Apple Pay, Google Pay) to make a gift?

Yes! We are now accepting digital wallet options as payment for donations made to the Senior Class Campaign. After clicking "Make a Gift," be sure to select Google Pay/Apple Pay on the Payment screen to use your digital wallet.

I made a gift last year but did not graduate. Do I need to make a gift again?

Thank you for supporting the Scarlet Seniors Class Campaign! If you'd like to be recognized as a Scarlet Seniors this year and receive an invitation to the donor recognition opportunity, you will have to give toward the Class of 2023 campaign. The good news is, if you gave last year, and you give again this year, you will be recognized as a member of the Rutgers Loyalty Society (RLS)!

What kind of recognition do donors receive?

Scarlet Senior donors are recognized in two ways:

  • Special Invite: When you make a minimum $5 gift, not only will your name be included on our campaign's online donor wall (optional), you will be invited to an exclusive donor recognition opportunity later this spring.
  • Philanthropy Cord: If you make a minimum $5 monthly recurring gift, or a minimum $25 gift, you will receive a philanthropy cord to wear with scarlet pride at commencement as an additional form or recognition.

Have questions about how to make a monthly gift? Check out the FAQ above or email us at scarletseniors@ruf.rutgers.edu!

How can I be recognized with a philanthropy cord?

Scarlet Senior donors who make a minimum $5 monthly recurring gift will receive a philanthropy cord to showcase their outstanding generosity and wear with scarlet pride at commencement. Monthly giving is easier on your budget; it costs only as much as one cup of coffee per month! It also allows you to continue making an impact, even after graduation! Learn more about how to set up monthly giving by checking out our FAQ above or emailing us as scarletseniors@ruf.rutgers.edu.

Not ready to commit to monthly giving? That's okay! A minimum $25 gift will also earn you a philanthropy cord to wear proudly at commencement.

I made a gift of less than $25, but I'd like to receive a philanthropy cord. Can I make another gift?

Yes, you can make another gift to close the gap between your original donation and the $25 needed to receive a philanthropy cord. For example, if you made a $10 gift in support of Scarlet Promise Grants, you can make an additional $15 gift in support of any area that is meaningful to you to receive a philanthropy cord.

Will I receive a receipt for my donation?

Yes, we will send you a receipt for your contribution by email shortly after you make the gift. If you have misplaced your email receipt and wish to receive another copy, please email us as scarletseniors@ruf.rutgers.edu.

Where do donations go?

Your gift will support the specific area at Rutgers that you choose.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes, there is a $5 minimum gift requirement.

Why isn't my gift going through?

There are a few reasons your gift may not be processing:

  1. Your address and zip code do not match what is registered with your credit card company. Update that information and try again.
  2. Your phone number or email address have "hidden spaces." Retype those without adding spaces.
  3. You have left one or more required fields blank. Please make sure all required fields are complete.
  4. Your credit card is not working; if this is the case, please try a different card.

Still not going through? Email us at scarletseniors@ruf.rutgers.edu for additional assistance.

I am not a senior; can I also support the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Seniors class campaign?

Thank you for your interest in supporting Rutgers! This campaign is specifically for graduating seniors in the Class of 2023. If you are not a student, or if you are not graduating in January or May 2023, you can still support any area of your choice by visiting give.rutgers.edu.
